Ladies and Gentlemen,
Dear Colleagues,
With great pleasure, we cordially invite you to attend the 70th Annual Meeting of the German Society of Neurosurgery, which will be held in Würzburg, Germany, from May 12 to 15, 2019. We gratefully thank the German Society of Neurosurgery for the opportunity to organise this anniversary meeting here in Würzburg - 85 years after the founding of the first neurosurgical department by Wilhelm Tönnis. With respect to the historical relation between Tönnis and his Swedish mentor, Herbert Olivecrona, we are particularly pleased that the first Joint Meeting with the Scandinavian Neurosurgical Society (SNS) will take place together with the Annual Meeting in Würzburg.
As in the past, we start our meeting on Sunday with the Educational Day, which will be organised together with our Neurosurgical Academy. In the evening, the famous Würzburg Residence, which has been included in the UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage List since 1981, is the venue for the festive opening ceremony. The scientific sessions will be held in the Congress Center Würzburg (CCW), which has been entirely renovated since the last Annual Meeting here in 2008. Together with all participants and guests, we would like to discuss current questions of patient care, scientific research, neurosurgical education as well as future prospects in these areas. This is the background for our main topics “Health Care Research” and “Neurosurgery 2030”, which will be related to different neurosurgical fields. In the final session of the meeting on Wednesday and with reference to our main topics, we would like to put a special focus on the “human factor”.
Würzburg is a very dynamic city. The old and the new, baroque and youthfulness, tradition and renovation are not contradictory, but - in the best meaning of “Universitas” - fundamental for an interdisciplinary exchange among different faculties. For such discussions, good food and excellent wine are mandatory - therefore, our Tuesday evening programme, which will take place at the Bürgerspital, will be somewhat different from the usual festive evening: With a get-together in the Wine Cellar and a dinner in the Wine Press Hall, combined with lots of music, we hope to attract and encourage all of you, especially our younger colleagues, to attend!
We hope to have an Annual Meeting with an intense scientific as well as social exchange of experiences und new ideas. A stimulating, friendly, and collegial atmosphere should be the basis for exciting and lively discussions. We are looking forward to seeing and welcoming you to Würzburg in 2019!
