Dear Colleagues and Friends,
As President of the International Society of Ocular Oncology I am delighted to welcome you to Los Angeles for the 19th International Congress on Ocular Oncology. Since 2004, this congress has been organized under the umbrella of the International Society of Ocular Oncology, and it brings together ophthalmologists with an interest in ocular oncology.
The congress features five days of the best in clinical knowledge and research in ophthalmic oncology, with very experienced speakers together with young ophthalmologists who are eager to learn.
The local organisers under the fantastic leadership of Congress President Jesse Berry and Program Secretary Dan Gombos have put together an impressive program, with great invited speakers, including Dr. John Hungerford who will deliver the Stallard lecture, Dr. Tim Sullivan who will speak about the eyelid, lacrimal and orbital diseases, and Dr. Brenda Gallie, who will present the Murphree lecture. For the first time, ISOO has special sessions for YOOs (Young Ocular Oncologists), and the previous initiative to have a special meeting for Women in Ocular Oncology (WOO) gets a follow-up.
I thank all those who worked extremely hard for the preparation of this conference, my ISOO board members for their contributions and for keeping the society healthy, and the Editors-in-Chief and Board of Ophthalmic Oncology and Pathology for providing us with our own journal.
The meeting will start with a great educational course, organised together with the American Association of Ophthalmic Oncologists and Pathologists, and a collaboration session, where examples of worldwide collaborative efforts are presented to show how ocular oncologists improve patient care through (international) collaborative research.
The outstanding scientific program and a social program that stresses the beauty of California promise a fine educational meeting with excellent opportunities to meet friends from around the world. I wish you a great congress!
