INVITATION
Welcome to the 2019 IAPRD World Congress in Montreal, Canada

Beyond Symptomatic Therapy: Quest for Disease Modification

On behalf of the Board of the International Association of Parkinsonism and Related Disorders, it is our pleasure to invite you to join us for the XXIV World Congress on Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders to be held 16 – 19 June 2019 in Montreal, Canada!

For 3.5 days, our World Congress will highlight new frontiers in clinical management and research, focusing specifically on early diagnosis and disease modification across the spectrum of movement disorders. Every morning the Congress will begin with Plenary Sessions that will provide comprehensive overviews of the latest developments in research, as well as current diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for Parkinson disease and movement disorders. These sessions will be followed by Parallel Tracks that feature more concentrated study in various areas. The Grand Parade of Movement Disorders is an evening video session where faculty and attendees will showcase the most interesting presentations of movement disorders from around the world. Skills Workshops will provide practical information on deep brain stimulation, pump technologies, and botulinum toxin injections—as well as demonstrations on how to examine patients with movement disorders!

The final day’s agenda will include powerful debates on controversial issues facing our specialty today, as well as a summary session of the highlights from the Congress and presentations of the awards for the best posters. During the Congress, Poster Sessions will allow delegates a chance to share their research, experiences, and observations; Guided Poster Tours will highlight top posters; and Sponsored Sessions will feature the latest areas of focus from our industry partners. An exciting novel aspect of the Congress is daily breakfast Educational and Mentorship Sessions specifically geared to young attendees. The Educational sessions will cover various topics, whereas Mentorship sessions will focus on career mentorship allowing young clinicians and scientists an opportunity to interact with and learn from accomplished senior faculty members.

Our meeting will convene in Montreal, the largest city in Canada’s Québec province and one of the largest French-speaking cities in the world. Montreal is located on an island in the Saint Lawrence River and takes its name from the triple-peaked hill, Mount Royal, at its center. Montreal is frequently called the Paris of the West, and summer is the best time to visit. This charming city comprises distinct boroughs that include the French colonial Vieux-Montréal, or old city, where the conference center is located. These features make Montreal a delightful location for clinicians and scientists from around the world to gain insights, learn from one another, and move the field of movement disorders forward for the benefit of patients worldwide.
