Preservation Rhinoplasty Course

Dear Colleagues,

Last November we completed our first rhinoplasty meeting. Since it was our first experience, we set a limit of 100 attendees but reached our capacity in only 3 days. Including the participation of foreign guests, we had a total attendance of 180 participants. Based on the significant positive feedback we received, we are encouraged to organize a second meeting in 2018 in Istanbul.

During the last panel of the 2016 meeting in Versay, the topic discussed was “what is the future of rhinoplasty?” In a presentation by Dr. Rollin Daniel, he discussed maximal anatomic preservation. He refered to myself and Dr. Saban by saying “limited incision with dorsum preservation” and has an article about to be published on this topic. Thus with the permission of Dr. Daniel, we have decided to call this meeting “Preservation Rhinoplasty”.

The Preservation Rhinoplasty congress will be held on November 29th- December 1st 2018. It will begin with a course on drawing the nose. Then with a discussion on the surface aesthetic analysis, we aim to achieve a “non operated” look. On the third day, we are planning a live surgery in American Hospital. Some of the speakers will inculde artists, anatomists, an otolaryngologist, an anesthetist, and a dermatologist. Dr. Yves Saban and Peter Palhazi will discuss dissection and demonstrate the operation on a cadaver. Dr. Saban taught me the let down technique on the cadaver. Initially I was very skeptical of this procedure but now I can’t imagine not using this technique. We have made the let down technique more practical with micro handsaws developed by Dr. Eren. Serial manufacturing of these devices is almost available and I am sure you will find them very useful.

The most important part of this technique is that it is reproducible. In the congress there will be international speakers who visited as a fellow to Istanbul. They currently use this technique and obtain the same results. The congress language will be in Turkish, but there will also be English and Russian interpreters available. For securing the hotel and congress room we will require pre-registration. We are planning for roughly 250 participants. The cost for attendance will be roughly 500 Euros. Any surplus in budget will be donated to Turkish Education Foundation.
