FIG 2018 Istanbul

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the largest and most prestigious conference of surveying professionals to be held in Istanbul/Turkey in 2018. We expect 2.000-2.500 surveying and spatial experts from around 100 countries. The week-long conference offers a mix of interesting plenary and technical sessions and workshops, a trade exhibition and a variety of side events and social functions. The technical programme will consist of around 550 presentations within the field of surveying including best practice and new research.

The theme of the Congress is “Embracing our smart world where the continents connect: Enhancing the geospatial maturity of societies.“ A few years ago, we identified the need for providing reliable, evidence-based open and/or low-cost data which describe a “spatially enabled” society. But today we realize that we have an additional task to ensure that these data and tools are used intelligently by the society and governments and through that to ensure the transition from the stage of a “spatially enabled” society to the stage of a “spatially mature” society. This transition requires; massive creation & consumption of data (structured/not), extended use of affordable smart devices, increasingly high downloading speeds, the Internet of Things, cognitive computing for all to improve human decision making, the provision of personalized information and the Internet of Me.
