British Society of Gastroenterology Annual Meeting-BSG 2019

On behalf of the 2019 Planning Committee, it is my great pleasure to invite you to the next Annual Meeting of the British Society of Gastroenterology (Glasgow 17-20 June 2019).

We aim to build on previous successes: last year’s programme was rated good or excellent by 99% of delegates. As usual, we will begin on 17th June with the Gastroenterology Masterclass and follow with the main programme on the 18th-20th. Over 50 symposia will cover the full range of clinical and scientific gastroenterology and hepatology, with lectures from international and UK speakers. The moderated poster rounds (with prizes) and the highest scoring abstracts (presented as electronic posters) will help you keep up to date with the latest research. This year we will finish on Thursday afternoon with a second plenary symposium featuring the top abstracts being presented – make sure you stay until the end!

Continuing our approach to gastroenterology as a multidisciplinary and international specialty, we will have joint symposia with Cancer Research UK and two joint sessions between our Inflammatory Bowel Disease section and their French counterparts – showing the BSG has an international perspective despite any political changes.

Now in its third year, the hands-on Endoscopy Village will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday. This will feature up to 10 stations allowing personal 1:1 training in various endoscopic techniques. The meeting will be complemented by an integrated industry-sponsored programme and, of course, the Exhibition area. On Thursday lunchtime we will have a series of small group workshops.

Socially, the meeting is an excellent opportunity for you to catch up with colleagues and make new friendships. Late Monday afternoon there will be a welcome reception in the Exhibition area and on Wednesday evening we will have the first BSG ceilidh, in the fantastic venue of the Kelvingrove museum – make sure you book a ticket when you register!

The SEC Glasgow is located on the north bank of the River Clyde; for those of you who haven’t been to Glasgow recently, the area around the conference centre has changed hugely since it was home to the 2014 Commonwealth Games. There are now several hotels, with hundreds of beds within 5 minutes walk of the conference centre.
