Greetings from the most breathtaking place in the world!
On behalf of the Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol and other Drugs, we are excited to welcome you to visit a place that is in the middle of a socio cultural renaissance against the backdrop of an unchanged and impressive natural environment.
Holding the conference here has parallels with the alcohol and other drugs field. Hobart has changed substantially in the past decade, it is hardly recognisable both in cityscape and people. Much of this has come from surprising developments driven by locals - it just goes to show how much strategic investment can drive change at all levels. How could a different approach to investment in the alcohol and other drugs sector shape change in our field? Regulatory changes, shifting funding patterns from siloed provision to multi-disciplinary consortiums, innovations in treatment and research, could see our field in a very different place in just a few years. Advances, connections, and learning from this conference could have a far reaching impact on the lives of people engaging with substances into the future.
The conference will be held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor which is situated on our waterfront, the jewel in the crown of our classic little city that has come so far. Drive 15 minutes and you are visiting an amazing museum, drive an hour and you can get to many secluded wilderness spots, add 2-3 days on to your visit and venture up the east coast or drive straight up through the middle and visit all we have to offer you. You won’t be let down.
