7. World Congress on Adult Capacity-WCAC 2022

A huge accolade for Scotland is to have been invited to host the 7th World Congress on Adult Capacity in June 2022. It is an accolade in particular for Scots law and the Scottish legal system, including Scotland’s world leading approach to adult incapacity. Scotland, as ever punching above its weight, will be by far the smallest country yet to host the Congress, and only the second European country, after it will have been awarded at least once to every inhabited continent except Africa. Each biennial Congress provides a focus for developments worldwide of human rights-driven provision for people with mental and intellectual disabilities, and a powerful springboard for future research, reform and practical delivery. Scotland and its leading-edge experts are in worldwide demand.

Each Congress requires financial support. It also provides unique opportunities for projecting the range of services that providers in the host country have to offer, across a wide range beyond the subjects addressed in the Congress. Sooner or later, every family is likely to experience issues of ageing, or learning disabilities, or impairments of capacity caused by illness or trauma.

Decision-makers in any field can be particularly receptive to providers with a proven ethical involvement in such matters. You are invited to follow the lead of the Law Society of Scotland in supporting the delivery of an outstanding Congress by taking up one of our sponsorship packages.
