INVITATION
Dear ESTD members,

We are delighted to invite you to Rome for our 7th biennial conference, to be held on October 24-26, 2019.

The theme of this ESTD Conference is “The Legacy of Trauma and Dissociation - Body and Mind in a New Perspective”: a challenging notion for both clinicians and researchers!

Throughout the program we will explore these issues from many different perspectives, and across all developmental phases, from childhood to old age.

Our venue, ‘Auditorium dellaTecnica’ (http://centrocongressi.confindustria.it/en) is a modern, comfortable conference space with many meeting rooms and an 800-seat auditorium located in the EUR district in Rome; ‘EUR’stands for Esposizione Universale Roma, as this part of Rome was meant to house the 1942 World’s Fair (which did not occur, because of WWII). Containing striking architecture from the1930s and 40s and surrounded by 70 hectares of parks and gardens, EUR is today a modern and lively business district. Despite being located very close to the historic city centre, the EUR district is easy to get to, with direct links to Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, and the Termini and Tiburtina railway stations; there are also high quality hotels and accommodation opportunities, luxury shopping, and great restaurants.

The keynote speakers, world-renowned experts in the field of trauma and dissociation, will introduce us to their latest research, clinical ideas and discoveries in understanding and treating dissociation and trauma-related disorders. We encourage you to submit your abstracts to share your presentation and creative ideas with our community!

Abstract submissions will be open from 15 November 2018 to 15 March 2019.

On Thursday evening we will open our conference with two exciting plenary talks: Michela Marzano, a famous Italian philosopher, will introduce us to social aspects of the fragility of the human condition. Then Kathy Steele will present her latest ideas on the treatment of trauma and dissociation.

On Friday and Saturday, plenaries will be offered by Benedetto Farina (brain studies on trauma, disintegration and disorganized attachment), Martin Dorahy (on DID, episodic autobiographical memories and the sense of self in different dissociative identities) and Ellert Nijenhuis on his new approach to trauma treatment (“Enactive Trauma Therapy: Bridging mind, brain, body and world”).

A few words about the background of the main speakers (in alphabetical order) in the 'keynote speakers' page.

So you can see we have a stellar lineup of keynotes! Rome itself, however, needs no introduction; it is a city of highest historical and cultural interest. And to help you plan for your free time, the Organizing Committee will provide ideas for tours, events and tourism opportunities to enjoy the ‘Eternal City’ and its many different sides.
So save the dates – we look forward to meeting you in Rome!
