6. World Conference on Research Integrity-WCRI 2019

It is with great sadness that we write to inform you that our Co-Chair of the 6th World Conference on Research Integrity and our cherished friend, Dr. Paul Taylor, passed away on November 20, 2018.

Paul has been involved in planning the World Conferences on Research Integrity (WCRIs) since the 4th conference in Rio de Janeiro. As one of the Co-Chairs of the 6th WCRI to be held in Hong Kong in 2019, he has contributed enormously in shaping the conference program and he graciously hosted a two-day Preparatory Meeting in Melbourne in May this year involving over 18 members of the 6th WCRI Program Committee and WCRI Foundation Governing Board. We enjoyed very much working with him during the last two years in our preparation for the 6th WCRI in Hong Kong.

Paul was a recognized world-leading expert in research integrity. His thoughtful and determined leadership of various aspects of the responsible conduct of research has been influential at RMIT, The University of Melbourne, throughout Australia, and overseas. He worked with researchers, institutions, publishers, and government agencies both in Australia and overseas to guide how they conduct and support trustworthy research, and how they should best work with each other to build a culture of research integrity.

Paul was a leading figure within the Asia Pacific Research Integrity Network, and he was also strongly involved in the APEC Guiding Principles for Research Integrity project. Through his work, Paul established many friendships and a legacy that will help improve scientific research globally.

Paul was a very caring, kind and generous person. He was much loved and respected by his colleagues within Australia and in other countries. Paul's sense of humor turned any occasion into a relaxed and inspiring event.

We would like to express our gratitude for Paul's contributions to WCRIs and the global research community, and extend our deepest condolences to his family.
