40. Annual Congress of The European Strabismological Association-ESA 2019

Dear friends and colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to attend the 40th Annual Congress of the European Strabismological Association in Helsinki from 5th - 8th June 2019. We are meeting in June to benefit from the long hours of daylight during the beautiful Finnish summer. We will be holding our meeting in the famous Finlandia Hall, so you will have a chance to admire its iconic architecture by the world-renowned Finnish architect, Alvar Aalto and its beautiful setting beside a sea inlet. We are also close to the famous Rock Church, which is a very beautiful modern church hewn out of solid rock on a hill within the city of Helsinki.

We have a first class scientific programme with speakers from across the world, including a Symposium on Nystagmus organised in response to feedback from members and one on Restrictive Strabismus organised by the International Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Council. We will also have symposia on surgical techniques and surgical complications, our usual orthoptic symposium and our ever-popular event, “A Case I have Learnt from….”. Our popular pre-meeting workshops on Orthoptic Education and “What you always wanted to ask about strabismus …” are now a regular part of our programme and last, but by no means least, we invite you to submit abstracts of your own work which will form a major part of the programme.

Transport links to Helsinki are excellent, with direct flights from many European and several US airports as well as from Asia. There is a good range of hotels from which to choose accommodation. Do book early because Helsinki is a very popular destination in its short summer. I look forward to meeting you there to celebrate our 40th Anniversary.
