13. European Working Group on Gaucher Disease Congress-EWGGD 2019

Dear Friends, Dear Colleagues, Dear Patients,

We are delighted to invite you to the 13th European Working Group on Gaucher Disease Congress (EWGGD 2019, www.ewggd.org) to be held from 4-6 July, 2019 in Clermont-Ferrand, Auvergne, France.

The EWGGD congress is unique in several ways:

It is the only international congress dedicated to Gaucher disease in all its aspects with the objective of sharing information on the latest advances and studies on this rare disease including unpublished results

An important asset of this conference is the participation of the international patients’ association, the International Gaucher Alliance IGA (formerly the European Gaucher Alliance, EGA), the umbrella organisation for over 48 patient groups from around the world. In past meetings this gathering of scientists, treating clinicians and researchers along with patient representatives, has proven to be a major catalyst for exchanges between professionals and patients and for further studies; we fully expect this meeting to advance this further.

The meeting hopes to foster interactions and active participation from all attendees to pave the way for future collaborations. Furthermore, an educational part for “Gaucher starters” will also be offered.

The scientific programme is currently being prepared; it will accommodate the work from all teams in the form of oral presentations. We encourage everyone from the Gaucher ‘Planet’ to submit their research. The deadline for abstract submission is on March 16th, 2019; notifications of accepted papers will be communicated on April 15th.

As usual this meeting will give the opportunity for EWGGD members to meet. This year, we intend to hold to two separate meetings that will determine the future of the EWGGD:

July 3, 2019, from 5pm – 7pm: a brainstorming meeting dedicated to the tasks and missions of the EWGGD, which is open to all EWGGD member groups.

July 5, 2019, late afternoon: a business meeting with elections, planning and location of the next meeting, finances, etc.

The congress promises to be stimulating and provocative. We know there are many developments to report, challenges to consider and the collaborations that will develop will as always prove to be vital in working towards addressing patients´ needs.

We look forward to seeing you in the Auvergne - a recently listed UNESCO World Heritage Site - as a participant in this exciting congress.
