My esteemed colleagues,

Microneurosurgery profoundly transformed neurosurgery, saving and bettering the lives of millions. It is like the fire of Prometheus to humanity. It is science, art, and skill applied with devotion to heal patients inflicted with nervous system disorders. There is yet to develop a viable alternative that provides cure to patients. Near 7 billion people around the world live in areas that cannot afford exuberant expenditures for neurosurgical care that aim only to control their disease. These patients can be cured with minimal resources and equipment by skilful microneurosurgeons. Mastering neurosurgery and producing good outcomes, however, requires arduous training and devoted experience. Microneurosurgery has to be learned, mastered, and taught. Neurosurgery has branched widely into diversified areas. Frequently we’re overloaded with promotion of non-surgical remedies. It became paramount to focus on the advancement and education in microneurosurgery and rekindle the passion. Hence, the birth of Yaşargil Microneurosurgical Academy embracing the neurosurgeon of the century: Professor M. Gazi Yaşargil.
